What this tool does
A slug is the readable part of a web address, like /remove-line-breaks. Good slugs are lowercase, short and made of plain letters and numbers separated by hyphens. This tool removes accents, changes an ampersand into the word "and", discards other symbols and trims separators from both ends. Each line becomes its own slug, so you can convert a whole batch of titles together. It does not shorten long titles, so trim filler words yourself if you want a compact address. Always check that the slug you end up with is not already used by another page on your site, because two pages with the same address will conflict.
Common problems
The slug lost non-Latin text
Only letters a-z and numbers are kept. Words written in non-Latin scripts are dropped.
It is longer than I want
Remove small words from the title before converting.
Questions
Hyphens or underscores?
Search engines treat hyphens as word separators, so hyphens are the common choice for web addresses.
Does it check that the slug is unique?
No. Make sure the slug is not already used on your site.
What happens to numbers?
Numbers are kept.
