What this tool does
Letters and numbers in any language are kept, so accented words and non-Latin scripts survive. Everything else, such as currency signs, percent marks, stars, arrows and brackets, is removed. When line breaks are not kept, all whitespace collapses into single spaces and the text becomes a single line. Because the rule is "keep these" rather than "delete a fixed list", unusual symbols copied from websites are removed as well. This is a blunt cleaner, so check the result before using it for anything where punctuation carries meaning.
Common problems
My email address lost its @ and dot
Those are special characters. Turn on "Keep basic punctuation" to keep the dot, and use the email extractor if you only need the addresses.
Accented letters disappeared
They should not; letters in any language are kept. If they vanished, the source may use separate accent marks. Run remove accents instead if you want plain letters.
Questions
Does it keep underscores?
No. The underscore is treated as a symbol and removed.
Can I keep only a-z and 0-9?
Run this tool, then use remove accents to turn accented letters into plain ones.
Does it remove emojis too?
Yes, emojis are symbols and are removed.
