What this tool does
Emojis are made of several parts: a base picture, an optional skin-tone modifier, invisible joiner characters that merge people or families, and variation selectors that choose a picture or text style. This tool removes the pictographs together with those helper characters, so you do not end up with stray boxes or invisible leftovers. Digits, the # sign and ordinary punctuation are left alone even though they are part of some keycap emoji sequences. Runs of spaces left behind where an emoji sat are tidied to a single space.
Common problems
A symbol like ♥ or ☎ is still there
Some older symbols are treated as text characters, not emojis. Use remove special characters to strip them as well.
There is an extra space where the emoji was
Runs of spaces are collapsed, but a single space before punctuation stays. Run the extra spaces tool if you want it tighter.
Questions
Does it remove flags and skin tones?
Yes. Flag letters and skin-tone modifiers are removed along with the emoji.
Will it break non-English text?
No. Letters from other scripts are preserved.
Why do emojis cause problems in databases or exports?
Some older systems cannot store characters outside the basic Unicode range, so cleaning them beforehand avoids errors.
