What this tool does
Numbering is useful for turning rough notes into steps, referencing lines in feedback or labelling log output. Numbers increase by one for each numbered line, and with "Skip blank lines" on, empty rows are left as gaps without using up a number. Change the separator to ") ", " - " or a tab-like spacing to match your style. To start at a different value, type it into the starting number field. If your text has long wrapped paragraphs, remove the line breaks first so each paragraph counts as one line.
Common problems
Each wrapped line got its own number
Your text has hard line breaks. Join them with the line break remover, then number.
The start value is ignored
It must be a whole number. Anything else falls back to 1.
