Text Cleanup Tools › Spaces and line breaks
Add Line Breaks
Break one long block of text into lines after each sentence, every few words, or at a set width.
Processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
How it works
- Paste your text into the box above.
- Choose whether to break after each sentence, after a number of words, or at a line width, and set N if needed.
- Copy the result. Turn on the blank-line option if you want a gap between pieces.
Example
Our office opens at nine. Please bring your ID! Is parking available? Yes, behind the building.

What this tool does
This is the opposite of removing line breaks. After-sentence mode starts a new line each time a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark is followed by a space, which is handy for subtitles, line-by-line editing and readable plain-text emails. The words and characters modes cut text into chunks of a fixed size. Character mode wraps at word boundaries, so a word is never split in half; a word longer than the limit simply sits on its own line. Existing paragraph gaps (blank lines) are kept in the words and characters modes, so each paragraph is processed separately.
Common problems
It broke after an abbreviation such as "Dr."
Sentence mode treats any full stop followed by a space as a sentence end. Fix the few abbreviations by hand, or use the find-and-replace tool afterwards.
My long words are not split
Character mode only breaks between words. A single word longer than N stays whole on its own line.
Questions
Can I add a line break after every comma?
Not in this tool, but the find-and-replace tool can swap a comma and space for a comma and a line break.
Does it change the words themselves?
No. Only the spaces between pieces change into line breaks; the words and punctuation are untouched.
Is there a text length limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large texts depend on your device.
